Can a short video ease the stigma of lung cancer?
NCT ID NCT06286592
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a brief mindfulness video could help reduce the stigma that lung cancer patients often feel, especially those from underserved groups. Researchers worked with a community advisory board of lung cancer patients to design the video. The trial enrolled 108 adults with a history of tobacco use, including current lung cancer patients, and measured changes in stigma and smoking quit likelihood.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
mindfulness video
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a simple, low-cost tool to help lung cancer patients feel less stigmatized and more likely to quit smoking.
What could go wrong
This was a small, early-phase study with no control group, so results may not be generalizable. The intervention is behavioral, not a medical treatment, so it won't affect the cancer itself.
