NCT ID NCT00340405

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study collected and stored biological samples from nearly 10,000 tin miners in China who are at high risk for lung cancer due to workplace exposures. The goal is to use these samples to discover early markers of the disease, which could lead to better screening and prevention strategies. Participants provided sputum, blood, urine, and other specimens over time, and researchers will follow them to see who develops lung cancer.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to better ways to detect lung cancer early in high-risk groups, potentially saving lives through earlier treatment.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study that builds a resource for future research. It does not test a treatment, so direct benefits for participants are not expected.
