Could a new oat variety be safe for celiac patients?
NCT ID NCT07515105
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a low-immunogenic oat variety called Saul is well-tolerated by adults with celiac disease who are in remission. Forty participants ate 50 grams of gluten-free Saul oat flakes daily for 14 days. Researchers tracked symptoms and blood markers to see if the oats caused any immune reaction or discomfort.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
certified gluten-free oats of the Saul variety
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that certain oat varieties are well-tolerated by people with celiac disease, potentially expanding their diet options.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Oats can still cause reactions in some people with celiac disease.
