Could a tiny dose of naltrexone ease diabetic nerve pain without opioids?

NCT ID NCT04678895

First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether low-dose naltrexone (LDN) can safely reduce pain from diabetic neuropathy, a common complication of diabetes. About 35 adults with painful diabetic neuropathy who haven't found relief from standard treatments will receive LDN and a placebo in random order. The goal is to see if LDN, which boosts the body's natural pain relief and reduces inflammation, can be a non-opioid alternative to improve quality of life.
