Could a cheap hormone boost IVF success for women with low egg reserve?
NCT ID NCT07108621
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether taking a low dose of the hormone hCG for 8 weeks before IVF can increase the number of eggs retrieved in women with diminished ovarian reserve. About 80 women will be randomly assigned to receive either hCG or a placebo. The main goal is to see if hCG leads to more eggs being collected during the IVF cycle.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could improve egg yield in IVF for women with low ovarian reserve, potentially increasing their chances of pregnancy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 80 participants. The previous study showed promise, but results may not be confirmed or widely applicable.
