Can a simple supplement boost recovery from a major liver procedure?
NCT ID NCT07281846
Summary
This study is for people with advanced liver disease (cirrhosis) who have lost significant muscle mass (sarcopenia) and need a standard procedure called TIPS to treat internal bleeding or fluid buildup. Researchers want to see if adding a specific nutritional supplement (branched-chain amino acids, or BCAAs) to the TIPS procedure helps patients regain muscle, improve physical function, and lowers the risk of serious complications like brain fog (hepatic encephalopathy) or death. About 164 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the TIPS procedure plus the supplements or the TIPS procedure alone.
