Which heart drug works best for seniors with multiple ailments? new trial aims to find out
NCT ID NCT05786417
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study compares two common types of heart medications—beta-blockers and calcium channel blockers—in adults aged 65 and older who have stable angina (chest pain) and at least two other chronic conditions. The goal is to see which drug works better and is easier to tolerate, focusing on quality of life. About 741 participants will be followed to track how well they stick with the medication and how their symptoms change.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
beta-blocker or calcium channel blocker (anti-anginal medications)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors choose the best medication for older adults with angina and other health problems, improving quality of life and reducing side effects.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 4 trial comparing existing drugs, so no new treatment is being discovered. Results may not apply to all patients, and individual responses to medications can vary.
