Simple blood test may flag heart danger in kidney patients

NCT ID NCT07141628

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will measure levels of lipoprotein A, a type of fat in the blood, in 300 people with stage 4 chronic kidney disease. Researchers want to see if high levels are linked to future heart attacks, strokes, or worsening kidney function over 18 months. The goal is to find a better way to identify which patients are at highest risk.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could show that measuring lipoprotein A helps doctors better predict heart and kidney risks in people with chronic kidney disease.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only looks for links, not causes, and the 18-month follow-up may be too short to see clear patterns.
