Scientists investigate why high 'Bad' cholesterol harms heart repair cells
NCT ID NCT06626659
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed study examined blood samples from 40 adults to see if high levels of lipoprotein (a), a type of cholesterol, are linked to fewer or different blood vessel repair cells. Participants with high Lp(a) were compared to those with normal levels. The goal was to better understand how Lp(a) might contribute to heart disease.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could reveal why high lipoprotein (a) harms heart health, pointing toward new ways to prevent or treat cardiovascular disease.
What could go wrong
This is a small, observational study that only measures cells in blood samples. It does not test any treatment, so it may not lead to direct patient benefits.
