Summary

This large international study is testing if giving patients a lidocaine (a common numbing medicine) infusion during and for 24 hours after breast cancer surgery can prevent them from developing moderate or severe chronic pain one year later. It will enroll 4,300 women and compare the lidocaine infusion to a placebo (saltwater) drip. The main goal is to see if this approach safely reduces the chance of long-term pain, while also measuring pain levels, opioid use, and quality of life.
