Hormone shot timing may affect recovery after prostate cancer treatment
NCT ID NCT00175383
First seen Jul 02, 2026 ยท Last updated Jul 02, 2026
Summary
This trial compares two types of hormone injections given before prostate brachytherapy (internal radiation) for early-stage prostate cancer. One injection lasts one month, the other three months, and both are used to lower testosterone to make radiation more effective. The study measures how quickly testosterone returns to normal after treatment, as well as PSA levels, quality of life, and sexual function. Participants are men with localized prostate cancer who are already recommended to receive hormone therapy as part of their brachytherapy plan.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- LHRH agonist (short-acting or long-acting injection)
- What this could lead to
- If one type allows faster testosterone recovery, it could help men regain normal hormone levels sooner after prostate cancer treatment.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, single-center study comparing two drug schedules, not testing a new treatment. Results may not change standard care.
