Can blocking a hunger receptor boost weight loss? small study investigates
NCT ID NCT07171723
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how blocking the ghrelin receptor—a key hunger signal—affects appetite in people with obesity who are already taking semaglutide (a GLP-1 drug). Researchers will give 24 participants either LEAP2 (a natural hormone that blocks ghrelin) or a placebo during two visits, then measure food intake, hunger feelings, and metabolism. The goal is not to test a new treatment, but to better understand how appetite systems work together.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
LEAP2 (a natural hormone that blocks hunger signals)
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help scientists understand how different appetite systems interact, potentially leading to better obesity treatments.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-phase trial (24 people) that is not testing a new treatment—it is only measuring short-term effects. Results may not lead to any new therapy.
