New hope for stubborn bipolar depression? epilepsy drug enters major trial

NCT ID NCT07412132

Summary

This study is testing whether adding the medication lacosamide to standard treatments helps people with bipolar disorder who are experiencing a depressive episode that hasn't improved with other medications. Forty adults whose depression hasn't responded to at least two prior treatments will take either lacosamide or a placebo pill for 12 weeks, without knowing which one they receive. Researchers will measure changes in depression symptoms to see if lacosamide works better than the placebo.
