Labour and lunch: study checks if contractions slow digestion
NCT ID NCT03490682
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 10, 2026 · Updated 35 times
Summary
This study looked at whether being in labour changes how fast the stomach empties a light meal. Researchers used ultrasound to measure stomach size in 43 women: those in labour (with or without epidural), pregnant women not in labour, and non-pregnant women. The goal is to help decide if it's safe for women in labour to eat solid food.
