New knee surgery could help Bow-Legged patients with meniscus tears

NCT ID NCT07356674

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two types of knee surgery for people with bow-legged knees and a torn meniscus. One surgery uses a newer bone-cut method, while the other uses a standard bone-cut method. About 20 participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two surgeries. Researchers will track knee function, pain, and healing over 12 months to see if the newer approach is as good as or better than the standard one.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Hemi-tibial plateau osteotomy combined with arthroscopic repair
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a better surgical option for patients with bow-legged knees and meniscus tears, potentially improving knee function and reducing pain.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The new surgery may not be better than the standard one and carries typical surgical risks like infection or bleeding.
