New knee pain block could get you walking faster after surgery
NCT ID NCT07578688
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests two ways to numb the knee after total knee replacement. One method uses a low-dose anesthetic on three main nerves, while the other uses a higher dose on two smaller nerves. The goal is to see which provides better pain relief with less muscle weakness, so patients can start walking sooner and use less morphine. The trial will involve 120 adults scheduled for knee replacement.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
naropeine (a local anesthetic)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point to a better way to manage pain after knee replacement, reducing the need for strong painkillers and helping patients walk sooner.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 120 participants. The results may not apply to all patients, and the low-dose block might not provide enough pain relief.
