Knee replacement showdown: which alignment works best?
NCT ID NCT04246138
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two methods of aligning a new knee joint during total knee replacement surgery: kinematic alignment and mechanical alignment. Researchers want to see which method gives better function and movement one year after surgery. The trial will involve 100 adults with knee osteoarthritis who are getting a knee replacement.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
knee replacement surgery with either kinematic or mechanical alignment
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that one alignment method leads to better knee function and range of motion after replacement.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The difference between methods might be small or not meaningful.
