Microspheres aim to ease knee pain without surgery

NCT ID NCT06872567

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares a new procedure called genicular artery embolization (GAE) using Nexsphere-F microspheres against standard steroid injections for knee osteoarthritis. About 126 people with knee pain will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. The goal is to see if the microspheres can better reduce pain, stiffness, and daily activity limitations.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Nexsphere-F microspheres (resorbable embolization beads)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new, longer-lasting option for knee osteoarthritis pain relief without surgery.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage trial with only 126 people, so results may not apply to everyone. Risks include allergic reactions or complications from the artery procedure.
