Stem cell shot may free kidney patients from lifelong pills

NCT ID NCT05525507

First seen Dec 12, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This early-phase study tests whether a stem cell infusion from the same donor can allow kidney transplant recipients to safely stop their daily anti-rejection medications. Ten adults with a stable, well-functioning kidney from a matched living donor will receive a conditioning treatment followed by the stem cells. The goal is to see if the body can accept the kidney without lifelong drugs, though ongoing monitoring for rejection is required.
