Can MRI scans reveal how diabetes drugs shield kidneys?

NCT ID NCT07270198

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will use advanced MRI scans and blood tests to explore how SGLT2i medications protect the kidneys in 100 people with diabetic kidney disease who are at risk of worsening. Participants will already be taking SGLT2i as part of their routine care. The goal is to identify markers that predict which patients will have slower kidney decline, helping tailor future treatments.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors predict which patients with diabetic kidney disease will benefit most from SGLT2i therapy, potentially slowing kidney decline.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it won't directly test a new therapy. Results may not lead to immediate changes in care.
