Can ketamine and talk therapy rewire the depressed brain?

NCT ID NCT07247006

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether ketamine injections combined with psychotherapy can help people with treatment-resistant depression. Researchers will use brain scans to see if changes in brain activity link to improvements. About 25 adults will receive 1-2 doses of ketamine and several therapy sessions over two months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

ketamine hydrochloride injection

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a faster-acting treatment for depression that doesn't respond to standard antidepressants.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study with only 25 people, so results may not apply widely. Ketamine can cause dissociative side effects, and the benefit may not last.
