New tool to measure movement in ICU patients gets italian makeover

NCT ID NCT07195942

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is creating and testing an Italian version of the ICU Mobility Scale, a tool that measures how well patients in intensive care can move. Researchers will enroll 100 adults in Italian ICUs to see if the scale is accurate and reliable when used by different healthcare workers. The goal is to help doctors and nurses better assess mobility and prevent muscle weakness in critically ill patients.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a reliable tool for Italian ICUs to assess patient mobility, potentially improving recovery from muscle weakness.

What could go wrong

This is a small, observational validation study (100 participants) that does not test a treatment. The scale may not work equally well in all ICU settings or patient groups.
