Squeeze away hypertension? handgrip exercise tested in pregnancy
NCT ID NCT07607795
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a simple handgrip exercise can safely lower blood pressure and improve thinking skills in pregnant women with and without chronic hypertension. Thirty pregnant women will either perform short handgrip squeezes or rest quietly, and researchers will measure changes in blood pressure and cognitive function. The goal is to see if this easy, non-drug approach could help manage blood pressure during pregnancy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Isometric handgrip exercise
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way for pregnant women with high blood pressure to lower their blood pressure and protect their heart and brain health.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to all pregnant women. The exercise may not lower blood pressure enough to make a real difference.
