Can Lab-Made ovarian cells rescue immature eggs? new trial aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07559357
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether co-culturing immature human eggs with lab-grown ovarian support cells (made from stem cells) helps them mature in the lab. About 100 women undergoing IVF will donate leftover immature eggs, which will be split into two groups: one with standard lab maturation and one with the added support cells. The main goal is to see if more eggs reach maturity. All resulting embryos are for research only, not for pregnancy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
iPSC-derived ovarian support cells
What this could lead to
If successful, this could improve the number of mature eggs available for research, potentially pointing toward better IVF techniques in the future.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage, small trial using eggs that would otherwise be discarded. All embryos are for research only, so there is no direct patient benefit. Results may not translate to clinical use.
