Lidocaine during liver surgery may cut opioid use

Summary
This study tested whether giving lidocaine through a vein during liver surgery can reduce pain and the need for strong painkillers (opioids) afterward. 124 adults having minor liver surgery were randomly assigned to receive either lidocaine or a placebo (salt water) during the operation. After surgery, all patients used a pump to control their own pain medicine. The main goal was to see how much opioid painkiller they used in the first 24 hours.
