Could an old drug tame cancer in the spinal fluid? new trial aims to find out
NCT ID NCT05184816
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 15, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This early-phase trial tests whether deferoxamine, a drug given directly into the spinal fluid, is safe for people with leptomeningeal metastases—cancer that has spread to the lining of the brain and spinal cord. Researchers will test different doses in 35 adults with solid tumor cancers to find the safest dose and see how the body handles the drug. The goal is to control the disease, not cure it, and participants must be well enough to have a life expectancy of at least 8 weeks.
