Can statins melt brain plaque? new study aims to find out

NCT ID NCT03753555

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether high-dose statins can reduce or stabilize fatty plaques in the brain's arteries that cause strokes. About 100 recent stroke patients will get intensive statin therapy and have their arteries scanned with a special MRI. The goal is to see if the plaques shrink or become less dangerous, which could lower the risk of another stroke.
