Could less treatment save more babies? major trial questions standard care for rare birth defect
NCT ID NCT05213676
First seen Feb 12, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study looks at whether not using inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) right after birth helps babies with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), a rare birth defect where the diaphragm doesn't form properly. About 600 newborns across multiple hospitals will be studied to see if avoiding iNO reduces the need for a heart-lung machine or death. The goal is to find out if this common treatment is actually helpful or harmful.
