New hope for unborn babies with rare diaphragm defect: FETO procedure tested in phase 3 trial

NCT ID NCT07577414

First seen May 18, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests if a procedure called FETO (placing a balloon in the baby's windpipe during pregnancy) helps babies born with a severe hole in their diaphragm survive and have fewer long-term health issues. The trial will include 40 pregnant women carrying a baby with left- or right-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Researchers will compare outcomes between those who choose FETO and those who do not.
