Could a simple asthma drug prevent a dangerous immunotherapy side effect?
NCT ID NCT06860542
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether using inhaled budesonide (a steroid commonly used for asthma) for one year can stop lung inflammation from coming back in cancer patients who had a serious immune reaction to immunotherapy. About 94 adults with solid tumors who recently had lung inflammation from checkpoint inhibitors will be randomly assigned to receive either inhaled budesonide plus standard care or standard care alone. The goal is to see if the inhaled steroid reduces the need for strong oral or IV steroids and helps patients avoid recurrent breathing problems.
