First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tested an 8-week text-message program for Korean American caregivers of people with dementia. The messages covered dementia knowledge, caregiving skills, self-care, and support resources. Seventeen caregivers completed the program, and researchers measured changes in their dementia knowledge. The goal was to see if this simple, low-cost approach could help fill gaps in culturally tailored support.

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could offer a low-cost, scalable way to support dementia caregivers from underserved communities.

What could go wrong

This was a very small pilot study with only 17 participants, so results may not apply broadly. It measured knowledge change, not actual health outcomes.
