New bone graft shows promise in helping spine surgery patients heal
NCT ID NCT05972616
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looked at how well a bone graft material called Natural Matrix Protein (NMP™) works in 53 patients who had spinal fusion surgery for degenerative disc disease. The main goal was to see if the bones fused properly on CT scans and X-rays. Researchers also measured changes in disability using a patient questionnaire. The study is completed and provides early data on this product's performance.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Natural Matrix Protein (NMP) - a human bone allograft used to promote spinal fusion
What this could lead to
If successful, this could confirm that NMP™ is a safe and effective option for helping bones fuse after spinal surgery, potentially improving surgical outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center review with no comparison group, so results may not apply to all patients. The study is completed but only evaluates short-term fusion and disability.
