Blood test after surgery could spot hidden cancer cells

NCT ID NCT07268469

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether a blood test for circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) can detect leftover cancer after surgery in people with breast, lung, prostate, ovarian, or stomach cancer. About 840 participants will give blood samples before and after standard treatments. No new treatments are tested; the goal is to see how often ctDNA is found and if it relates to cancer returning.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could show that ctDNA testing helps find remaining cancer cells earlier, pointing toward better monitoring strategies.

What could go wrong

This is an early observational study with no treatment given, so it won't directly improve outcomes. It may also fail to detect ctDNA in enough patients.
