Can a smarter team catch missed diagnoses? new study aims to find out

NCT ID NCT05735314

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a new team-based approach can help primary care doctors diagnose anemia and decreased kidney function more accurately and quickly. The approach includes automated tracking of abnormal test results, adding care partners to guide follow-up, and using nurse navigators to involve patients. About 450 patients and their doctors across 13 clinics will take part, with some clinics using the new approach and others continuing usual care.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Enhanced diagnostic team process using automated test tracking, care partners, and nurse navigators
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to safer, faster, and more accurate diagnoses for common conditions like anemia and kidney problems in primary care.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage implementation study, not a drug trial. Results may vary across clinics and may not be widely adopted due to cost or workflow challenges.
