Rice-Sized implant could personalize sarcoma treatment
NCT ID NCT04199026
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early trial tests a rice-sized microdevice implanted into sarcoma tumors. The device releases tiny doses of up to 10 different drugs to see which ones kill cancer cells. The goal is to check if the device is safe and can help choose the best treatment for each patient. The study involves 20 people with recurrent or metastatic sarcoma who are already scheduled for surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
microdevice loaded with multiple drugs (including doxorubicin)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a way to test which drugs work best for each patient's sarcoma before full treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a very early pilot trial with only 20 people. The device may not work as expected, and results may not apply to all sarcomas.
