New drug combo aims to cut stroke disability in half

NCT ID NCT07252544

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tests whether two drugs, isosorbide mononitrate and butylphthalide, can lower the risk of disability after a lacunar stroke—a type of small stroke deep in the brain. About 3,156 adults who had a stroke within the past week will take one or both drugs or a placebo for up to a year. The goal is to see if these treatments help people recover better and avoid long-term problems like trouble thinking, another stroke, or death.
