Liver cancer trial adds a resistance-blocker to standard chemo – could it boost success?
NCT ID NCT07302919
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adding nicardipine (a drug that blocks a cancer resistance protein) to standard chemoembolization (TACE) improves outcomes for people with liver cancer. About 152 adults with untreated liver tumors will be randomly assigned to receive either the standard TACE or TACE plus nicardipine. The main goal is to see if the combination leads to more complete tumor responses at 3 months and longer progression-free survival.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- doxorubicin and nicardipine loaded into drug-eluting beads
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could improve the success rate of TACE for liver cancer, potentially leading to better tumor control and longer survival without progression.
- What could go wrong
- This is a mid-stage trial with only 152 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. Adding nicardipine could also increase side effects without clear benefit.
