Can a Pre-Surgery immune boost stop liver Cancer's return?
NCT ID NCT07461675
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether giving the immunotherapy drug atezolizumab before liver surgery can strengthen the body's immune response against liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma). About 30 patients will receive two doses before their operation. Researchers hope this approach might reduce the high rate of cancer recurrence after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
atezolizumab (immunotherapy drug)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a way to lower the chance of liver cancer coming back after surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 30 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Immunotherapy can cause immune-related side effects, and the benefit over standard care is not yet proven.
