Freezing fat to breathe better? new study probes how cryotherapy helps sleep apnea
NCT ID NCT06434558
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This observational study follows 10 adults with obstructive sleep apnea who are already receiving a cryotherapy treatment (the Cryosa Procedure). Researchers will use MRI and ultrasound before and after treatment to measure fat in the throat and nerve activity. The goal is to find out which patients respond best and how the treatment works.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Cryosa Procedure (cryotherapy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors predict which sleep apnea patients will benefit most from the Cryosa Procedure.
What could go wrong
This is a very small observational study (10 people) that does not test the procedure itself. It only looks for patterns, so results may not apply widely.
