Can a daily supplement shorten your cold? new study in seniors aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07431840
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a dietary supplement called IDP (Immune Defense Protein) can reduce the length and severity of cold and flu symptoms in people aged 60 and older. About 300 participants will take either a low or high dose of IDP or a placebo daily during cold and flu season. They will report their symptoms at home using a smartphone app, so no clinic visits are needed.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
IDP (Immune Defense Protein) dietary supplement
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a simple, over-the-counter supplement to help older adults have milder and shorter colds or flu.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage, consumer-driven study with self-reported data, so results may be less reliable. Supplements often show limited benefit in rigorous trials.
