New drug combo aims to calm ICU agitation, prevent breathing tube need

NCT ID NCT07377981

Summary

This study is testing whether a combination of two sedative drugs, esketamine and dexmedetomidine, can better manage severe agitation and confusion (delirium) in intensive care unit (ICU) patients who are awake and on breathing support but not on a ventilator. The main goal is to see if this combination shortens how long the delirium lasts compared to standard care. Researchers will also check if it helps patients avoid needing a breathing tube and improves other recovery measures.
