Fertility showdown: does injecting sperm beat mixing in a dish?
NCT ID NCT07175571
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at two ways to fertilize eggs with frozen donor sperm: ICSI (injecting a single sperm into an egg) and conventional IVF (mixing eggs and sperm in a dish). About 95 women without male fertility issues will have their eggs split into two groups, one fertilized with each method. Researchers want to see which method creates more usable embryos and whether one leads to better fertilization or early pregnancy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and conventional in vitro fertilization (IVF)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could help doctors choose the best fertilization method for people using frozen donor sperm, potentially improving embryo quality and pregnancy chances.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study (95 participants) comparing two procedures, not testing a new treatment. Results may not apply to all fertility cases, and there is no guarantee of better pregnancy outcomes.
