Can tumor profiling help kids beat cancer? new study aims to find out

NCT ID NCT02520713

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether testing the genes of a child's solid tumor can help doctors choose a more effective treatment. About 825 children and young adults with hard-to-treat solid tumors will have their tumors genetically profiled. The goal is to see if those who receive a treatment matched to their tumor's genetic changes live longer than those who do not.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Genetic testing and tumor profiling

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors better match cancer treatments to a child's specific tumor genetics, potentially improving survival.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not prove that matching therapy improves outcomes, and many patients may not get a matching recommendation.
