Your own blood could help heal gum disease bone loss
NCT ID NCT07261878
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding a concentrate from the patient's own blood (injectable platelet rich fibrin, or I-PRF) to a standard bone graft helps repair bone defects caused by advanced gum disease. Twenty adults with stage III periodontitis and deep gum pockets will receive either the combination treatment or the graft alone during surgery. Researchers will measure bone fill and gum health at 3 and 6 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
injectable platelet rich fibrin (I-PRF) and xenograft
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a better way to repair bone damage from advanced gum disease using the patient's own blood.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study with only 20 people, so results may not apply widely. The treatment is surgical and carries typical risks like infection or poor healing.
