Blood-Derived gel may speed healing after wisdom tooth removal
NCT ID NCT07257328
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether applying a gel made from a patient's own blood (i-PRF) to the extraction site after wisdom tooth removal helps the socket heal better than standard surgery alone. Thirty-two healthy, non-smoking adults had both lower wisdom teeth removed, with one side receiving i-PRF and the other serving as a control. Healing was assessed using a special scale. The goal is to see if i-PRF can improve recovery after dental surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF)
What this could lead to
If i-PRF improves socket healing, it could become a standard addition to dental surgeries to speed recovery and reduce complications.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 32 participants. Results may not apply to smokers, pregnant women, or those with health conditions. i-PRF may not significantly improve healing over standard care.
