New radiation approach aims to tame sarcoma with fewer sessions
NCT ID NCT03972930
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing a shorter course of high-dose radiation (hypofractionated radiotherapy) for soft tissue sarcoma. The goal is to see if this approach can control the tumor for at least two years while reducing damage to nearby healthy tissue. About 48 adults with inoperable or metastatic sarcoma will receive the treatment and be followed for up to five years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Hypofractionated radiotherapy (high-dose radiation given in fewer sessions)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a more convenient and potentially safer radiation option for people with soft tissue sarcoma, improving local tumor control.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase trial (48 participants) with no control group, so results may not apply broadly. The approach may still cause side effects or fail to control the tumor long-term.
