Blind cane study reveals how tools become part of the body
NCT ID NCT05199896
First seen Apr 02, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study looks at how blind people use a white cane to sense the world around them, like feeling for curbs or obstacles. Researchers will test touch perception on a rod and measure brain activity with EEG and MRI. The goal is to understand how the brain treats the cane as an extension of the body. 300 adults, both blind and sighted, will take part.
