Breaking the barrier: free blood transfusions offered to help dying patients access hospice sooner

NCT ID NCT05063591

Summary

This study tested if paying for blood transfusions would help people with advanced blood cancers choose hospice care earlier. Patients often delay hospice because they need transfusions, which hospice usually doesn't cover. The research provided free transfusions to see if this helped patients get better comfort-focused care at the end of life.
