Home rehab boosts COPD recovery adherence
NCT ID NCT04521608
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a home-based pulmonary rehabilitation program with health coaching helps people with COPD stay committed to rehab after leaving the hospital. 296 adults aged 40 and older who were hospitalized for a COPD flare-up took part. The home program used remote technology for exercises and symptom tracking, and was compared to standard center-based rehab. The goal was to see if more people completed rehab and felt better in their daily lives.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
home-based pulmonary rehabilitation with health coaching
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could make pulmonary rehab more accessible and improve quality of life for COPD patients after hospitalization.
What could go wrong
This is a completed study, so results are available but may not apply to all COPD patients. The home program requires confidence using the system, which may limit who can benefit.
