Chicago clinic tests friend-powered outreach to catch hidden HIV and addiction cases

NCT ID NCT07414459

First seen Feb 21, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study will test two new services at a large Chicago health clinic: routine substance use screening for all patients, and a program that asks people to refer friends or partners who might need HIV or addiction care. The goal is to find more people who don't know they have HIV or a substance use problem and connect them to treatment. Researchers will track how well these methods work and whether the clinic can keep them going long-term.
